UNICITY GUARDS

Created by the Cult of Unicity, the Unicity Guards, or Guardians of the Network, are an elite corps endowed with Arts in the service of the imperial religion. Their origins date back to the tripartite division of powers established by Systerin: the Emperor, the Senate, and the Cult of Unicity, which is still in force today. Independent of each other, each of these institutions has its own sphere of action but must negotiate with the others to enforce its decrees.

Described by propaganda as a harmonious system, imperial politics is in reality based on power struggles in which each party uses its institutions to gain power... or eliminate its rivals. Lacking military force, unlike the Senate with the Legion and the Emperor with the Cataphracts, the cult's influence was primarily political.

To compensate for this weakness, the cult council ordered the creation of the Network Guard, an elite corps capable of rivaling the elite of the Emperor and the Senate. One obstacle remained: to achieve their goal, the Fate had to use Corruption and, therefore, break the laws of the Pact.

According to legend, it was the project leader and first Guard who negotiated permission with the MIR. The details of this deal remain unknown, but the organization agreed in exchange for the possibility of recruiting the Guards of Unicity into its ranks.

Trained in close combat and ranged combat, the Unicity Guards are feared for their manipulative Arts, which they use to disarm their opponents or extract information. To ensure the loyalty of these exceptional warriors, the cult modifies their destiny, a process normally forbidden by Unicity itself.

The result is a warrior of absolute loyalty, physically incapable of slandering or betraying the Unicity. Aware of this limitation, the Guards use poetry and metaphors to express themselves or, in very rare cases, comment on the actions of their superiors.
